Murthy: Companies are facing more frequent and sophisticated cyber threats as attackers use AI to bolster their efforts. It’s an uphill battle to protect critical data, and their business can’t afford downtime associated with cyber incidents. Cohesity is the leader in AI-powered data security. Over 13,600 enterprise customers, including over 85 of the Fortune 100 and nearly 70% of the Global 500 rely on Cohesity to strengthen their resilience while providing Gen AI insights into their vast amounts of data. Attendees should stop by to learn more about why those customers put so much trust in Cohesity and how we can help make their business more cyber resilient.
VMblog: What role does zero trust play in your security strategy and solutions? How are you helping organizations implement zero trust effectively?
Murthy: Cohesity was built from the ground up using zero trust principles, and we continue to align with and enhance the principles of zero trust security as we introduce new innovations to our customers.
VMblog: With the rise in sophisticated ransomware attacks, how does your solution help organizations better prepare and respond?
Murthy: One of the most effective ways to blunt the impact of sophisticated ransomware attacks is to have a well-tested, effective, and comprehensive recovery plan in place. Our platform was purpose-built to help customers recover quickly and comprehensively from cyber incidents, and we’ve only enhanced its capabilities throughout the year with features like our Clean Room and RecoveryAgent solutions.

VMblog: How is your company addressing the challenges of securing hybrid and multi-cloud environments?
Murthy: Cohesity is designed for multicloud strategies. The Cohesity data platform offers native integration with public clouds, allowing you to leverage their scalability and pay-as-you-go model for various use cases while maintaining control of your data. For instance, with Cohesity Helios, you can deploy a Cohesity cluster in the public cloud to protect cloud-native applications and enable replication from on-premises for a hybrid cloud setup, or you can subscribe to Cohesity Data Management as a Service (SaaS) offerings to oversee your data.
Since the primary reason for adopting a multicloud strategy is choice, Cohesity provides the ultimate data management platform for flexibility. It features the widest range of options regarding deployment-across multiple clouds, hybrid cloud, on-premises, and SaaS-and includes a managed or pay-as-you-grow consumption model.
VMblog: What’s your perspective on the most critical cybersecurity trends that will shape the industry in 2025-2026?
Murthy: Just a few months into 2025, we believe our 2025 predictions will hold true, especially around increased scrutiny of software supply chain vulnerabilities and increasing global regulations. We also predict that global uncertainty and an evolving US global cyber defense posture will cause companies to more heavily invest in their cyber resiliency.
VMblog: How does your solution help organizations address regulatory compliance and emerging privacy requirements?
Murthy: Understanding your data, where it resides, and your regulatory obligations regarding that data is the starting point of any risk management strategy. Cohesity’s data classification capability allows organizations to locate and classify their unstructured data as a part of their data and cyber risk management strategies, helping deliver operational resilience regardless of how an operational disruption manifests itself.
For example, Cohesity’s classification capability supports NIS 2’s requirement for Asset Management by allowing an organization to classify the impact of the data involved in the incident. This is especially valuable if a cyber incident impacts the original systems and allows appropriate reporting to both the regulator and data subjects.
Cohesity’s comprehensive data indexing and classification help to ensure adherence to DORA and GDPR as well. Having the ability to locate and classify data correctly delivers operational resilience regardless of how a disruption manifests itself. This also enables organizations to quickly identify and report the details of a cyber event to authorities where information may have been compromised, stolen, or deleted.
VMblog: How can security leaders better prepare their organizations for the evolving threat landscape in 2025 and beyond?
Murthy: Security leaders must adopt a resilience-first mindset that emphasizes prevention, rapid response, and recovery. Legacy detection tools are no longer sufficient. Organizations should invest in AI-driven, unified platforms to enhance visibility and reduce response times.
Backup data is an untapped resource and a powerful tool for threat hunting and incident response, strengthening an organization’s overall security posture. By tapping into the wealth of historical information contained in backup systems, companies can gain deeper insights into potential threats, enhance their incident response capabilities, and build a more resilient cybersecurity practice.
Finally, no organization can go it alone. Security leaders need to work with vendors who prioritize strategic partnerships to create true integrated security architectures to enhance threat response and operational resilience significantly.
VMblog: What success stories or case studies will you be highlighting at RSA 2025?
Murthy: Paul Zimmerman, the Director of Technology at the Blaine County School District, will be joining us for an in-person discussion of response and recovery practices. As a Cohesity customer, he’ll be sharing his thoughts on advancements in data security that will help you meet the security threats of today and tomorrow so you can have better results when it’s time to recover.
VMblog: Is your company involved in any parties or gatherings that a show attendee can participate in?
