AIOps and Network Observability in 2024

By Amir Krayden, CEO of Senser

In 2023, we saw continued adoption of Kubernetes, microservices and APIs to drive the agility and innovation in an uncertain economic climate. In the new year, we can expect to see this spike continue, as well as the ongoing rapid growth of AIOps as an independent category, and the consolidation of the traditional observability space. We can also expect to see technical advancement in the graph Machine Learning (ML) and Large Language Models (LLMs) fields.

Growing production complexity will generate risks in the new year, especially as distributed cloud environments continue to become the norm, as opposed to traditional IT infrastructures. I also expect e-Commerce / retail to be particularly susceptible, as they grow the number of third-party integrations used to manage their user-facing webpages. Below I will explore top predictions I anticipate in 2024.

  • Expect to see brands prioritize context of production environment anomalies, leveraging advanced technologies to do so: Machine learning will be used to build a baseline telemetry and reduce noise within the network infrastructure. DevOps will then be able to rapidly detect anomalies even for unprecedented errors. Observability platforms that use newer data collection techniques, such as extended Berkeley Packet Filter (eBPF), will go beyond just detecting these anomalies and use AI to analyze the context of the issue. Overall, there is a stronger focus on actionable insights and additional context to trigger remediation of compromised production environments.
  • Retail and e-Commerce industries will be the most vulnerable to network risk: Going into 2024,the most risk lies in growing production complexity, especially as distributed cloud environments continue to become the norm, as opposed to traditional IT infrastructures. Retail and e-Commerce will be particularly susceptible to these as they increase the number of third-party integrations used to manage their user-facing web pages and businesses.
  • Data is just the starting point: Rich observability data is essential, but it requires high-fidelity metrics, logs, and traces. Companies must prioritize overlaying context, providing a “map” of the relationship between production environment components, to begin making higher-order inferences. Continuous data collection and analysis will be critical for companies to make more informed decisions about their network infrastructure as well as identify potential vulnerabilities within their systems.
