Industry executives and experts share their predictions for 2025.  Read them in this 17th annual VMblog.com series exclusive.

By Ali Shaikh, Chief Product Officer, Graphiant

Looking ahead to 2025, I see a year filled with transformation and opportunity, especially in network infrastructure. How we connect, manage data, and leverage AI will shift in exciting and necessary ways. Here’s what I predict and why these changes matter.

Networks That Adapt to AI

AI is pushing boundaries across industries, and our networks are no different. Right now, many networks are static, built with manual configurations. That won’t cut it anymore. AI demands networks that are dynamic, programmatic, and capable of moving massive amounts of data seamlessly-anywhere in the world.

We’re going to see networks evolve to support this “anywhere to anywhere” flow of data. These new systems will be faster, smarter, and more adaptable. They’ll enable businesses to scale their AI deployments efficiently and to keep up with the growing demand. This shift isn’t just about performance-it’s about preparing for a future where data drives everything.

Regulatory Compliance Will Dominate

AI adoption introduces another layer of complexity-compliance. With businesses operating across multiple cloud environments, regulatory requirements will take center stage. Companies will face increasing pressure to meet data sovereignty rules-ensuring their critical data stays secure and follows local regulations.

It’s going to take more than just connectivity. Networks will need built-in mechanisms to ensure legal and secure data movement. Multi-cloud solutions will rise to meet this need, making it easier to balance innovation with compliance. Organizations that get this right will unlock the full potential of their AI initiatives without compromising security or trust.

The Era of Post-Quantum Encryption

One of the bigger shifts in 2025 will be the adoption of post-quantum encryption. Cyber threats are evolving, and traditional encryption methods can’t keep up. Quantum computing adds another layer of urgency, with its ability to crack existing encryption.

Post-quantum encryption is the defense we’ll need against these growing risks. Businesses will begin rolling out these new standards to protect critical data, whether it’s in transit or at rest. This isn’t just a cybersecurity upgrade-it’s about safeguarding the backbone of innovation. AI and modern applications can only thrive when data is secure.

Protecting Data as a Core Asset

Data is a company’s most valuable resource, especially in the AI era. Training AI models requires massive datasets, and with that comes responsibility. Protecting this data at every step will be a priority.

CIOs, network engineers, and risk managers will need to reimagine their security strategies. The focus will be on adopting encryption, secure transfers, and other tools to keep sensitive information safe. It’s about enabling AI without exposing organizations to unnecessary risks. The companies that invest in this will be the ones able to innovate with confidence.

Smarter, Seamless Connectivity

We’re not just talking about faster connectivity anymore-it’s about smarter connectivity. Multi-cloud solutions, for example, will allow businesses to move data between platforms effortlessly while maintaining compliance and security.

Today’s static, point-to-point network configurations will give way to dynamic, self-adapting systems. Imagine networks that respond in real time to the needs of the business. These advancements will unlock seamless, secure, and intelligent connectivity-a game-changer for industries worldwide.

Why This Matters

All these changes might sound technical, but they’re crucial for the future. AI, applications, and data are the lifeblood of modern businesses, and none of it works without the right infrastructure. The network is the foundation-we can’t afford for it to lag behind.

As we move into 2025, it’s about building systems that are resilient and secure. It’s about being prepared for a post-quantum world. And it’s about creating the conditions that allow AI and innovation to flourish.

This is a turning point, and I’m confident that businesses ready to adapt will lead the way into the future. The potential is enormous, and I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together.
