At IGEL Now & Next 2026, held at the iconic Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami, VMblog sat down with Eduardo Campoy, Senior Worldwide Commercial Client Manager at AMD, for an exclusive interview on the future of client computing, AI-driven hardware innovation, and AMD’s deepening partnership with IGEL and Lenovo.

The Evolution of Client Computing — From Fat to Thin to “Fit”

Eduardo brings over 25 years of experience in client computing to the conversation, and he doesn’t shy away from the big picture. He traces the industry’s journey from the days of fat clients — where all processing power lived on the device — through the thin client era, and into what AMD sees as the next evolution: the fit client. This emerging model combines the best of both worlds, delivering improved manageability, cost control, and security, while leveraging the raw performance gains that modern AMD hardware makes possible.

AMD’s AI Strategy: CPU + GPU + NPU

Artificial intelligence is front and center at AMD right now. Eduardo explains how AMD’s hybrid architecture has evolved well beyond the CPU, now integrating CPU, GPU, and NPU (Neural Processing Unit) capabilities into a unified platform. The goal is straightforward: enable AI applications to run faster while consuming fewer resources — delivering the kind of performance-per-watt and performance-per-dollar efficiency that matters most to commercial and SMB customers.

Ryzen 400 Series & a New Small Form Factor Platform

Eduardo highlights two major announcements tied to AMD’s presence at the show. First, the Ryzen 400 series — unveiled at Mobile World Congress — represents AMD’s latest leap in processor technology, built on a new process node that delivers significantly more performance at considerably lower power consumption. Second, and announced in conjunction with the event, is a new small form factor platform developed jointly with Lenovo, arriving preloaded with components and optimized for a strong end-user experience.

Why IGEL Now & Next Keeps AMD Coming Back

AMD has been a consistent presence at IGEL Now & Next for several years, and Eduardo makes clear why. Beyond the networking — which he describes as unlike any other industry event — the show offers AMD a direct line to customers and partners alike. It’s a place to listen, learn, and bring real-world requirements back to AMD’s business units to shape future product generations.
